Scientific committee recommends changes to the Nutri-Score traffic light system
Following pressure from industry groups in Europe, Nutri-Score’s methodology has been reviewed amid concerns that it’s ‘good-to-bad’ traffic light classification of food is “not necessarily in accordance with dietary habits”.
Among the committee’s recommendations are modifications to the sugar, salt, fibre, protein, fruit, vegetables and legumes components. They also recommend specific rules for red meat products within the main algorithm for general foods. It’s intended to better align the nutrition label with dietary recommendations but Professor Frederic Leroy, who some of you will know, has some words of caution about what exactly the review is intending to achieve.
