Benefits of membership
Advocacy & Representation
Our membership spans businesses up and down the meat supply chain, accounting for the bulk of meat produced in this country.
We constantly monitor the political and legislative landscape for changes that will materially impact our members’ businesses. When we see an issue, we leverage our relationships with politicians, civil servants and regulators to ensure they understand the complexities and consequences involved. We fight our members’ corner in Westminster and Whitehall.
Technical Advice
Meat processing is one of the most regulated industries in the country. Companies must comply with UK regulation, and exporters must increasingly keep abreast of diverging requirements for our biggest market in Europe.
Part of BMPA’s remit is to provide high level technical advice to help members resolve issues or remain compliant. We have strong working relationships with Defra, the Food Standards Agency, Health and Safety Executive, Department of Health and various other groups with whom we can deal on behalf of members.
Business Intelligence
From constantly changing domestic and international trading landscape to sustainability, labelling, workforce and technology the meat industry is seeing an accelerated pace of change.
Through representation on key committees, think tanks and organisations both here and in our overseas markets, BMPA is the eyes and ears of the UK meat industry. It’s our job to gather information from multiple sources, identify potential issues, and feed it through to members as actionable business intelligence.
Events & Networking
BMPA is the central forum for all parts of the meat supply chain. Through our technical committees, members can come together to collaborate in discussions, projects and initiatives that drive standards and innovation.
By pooling experience and knowledge, they all benefit. Having access to such a strong cross section of industry experts in specialties from butchery and sustainability through to automation and export trade enables BMPA to provide detailed real-world input into government policy.
We also provide valuable insights to primary producers seeking to better understand the complexities, limitations and opportunities of this key part of the supply chain.
