This morning, BBC Farming Today ran a very interesting interview with Tom Heap about this Sunday’s Countryfile programme. It deals with revelations about “a prevailing culture of fear between supermarkets and their suppliers” and how ineffective the Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA) has been since its inception in protecting suppliers from unfair practices by big retailers.

Tom Heap describes the GCA as an ‘impotent umpire’, revealing that one of his anonymous farmer sources said he was actually advised by a GCA representative that approaching the GCA would harm his business!

The episode of Countryfile airs this Sunday at 5:15pm on BBC One.
