BMPA Chief Executive John Powell will be taking part in a major Westminster Food & Nutrition Forum policy conference on 6 November, looking at the next steps for food policy in England.
The conference will bring together representatives from across food, farming, manufacturing, local government and policy to examine some of the major challenges facing the food system. Discussions will cover how government and industry can support long-term sector growth, workforce capacity and competitiveness; how public health objectives can be balanced with affordability and consumer choice; and how the UK food system can become more resilient in the face of climate, land-use and food-security pressures.
John will join the session on building food-system resilience, which will look at issues including climate adaptation, domestic food production, imports and food security, pressures on productive agricultural land, supply-chain resilience and the investment needed to help businesses adapt.
For the meat processing sector, it provides an important opportunity to ensure the practical realities facing processors and the wider supply chain are part of the policy discussion, and to put those issues directly in front of policy makers and government representatives.
