Farmers take guided tour around fictional Archers abattoir
It's not often our industry is represented in the world of fictional drama, but this week saw Casey Meats, the abattoir in Radio 4's long running series The Archers, open its doors to a group of local farmers.
Interestingly they chose to highlight the benefits of bringing local organisations like schools and hospitals together with local producers to foster more direct procurement. "It would be good to get a contract that cuts out the supermarkets and wholesalers" as one fictional farmer commented. The episode also described the skilled knife workers in the boning hall and the ... reggae music they play to the animals in the lairage. It's worth a listen for industry enthusiasts.
