Global Ag groups push for fairer methane accounting

Global meat and farming organisations led by Beef + Lamb New Zealand and including the British Meat Processors Association, have jointly called on governments to adopt a split-gas approach to greenhouse-gas reporting, separating short-lived gases like methane from long-lived ones such as CO₂.

For UK processors it means future regulatory metrics and sustainability targets may shift to focus more finely on methane emissions from livestock processing and supply chains rather than being lumped into a broad CO₂ equivalent umbrella. It could change the face of customer-facing sustainability credentials.
