Industry loses a pioneer who shaped the Irish meat industry

Dawn Meats has announced that its co-founder Dan Browne, has died aged 88. He served as the company's managing director for 27 years and then as a valued board member and key adviser from 2007 onwards. He presided over the transformation of Dawn Meats from a start-up in 1980 to the €3 billion enterprise it is today, spanning 12 countries and employing over 8000 staff.

Dan's contribution to the wider agri-food industry extended well beyond the meat industry, from his early work as a research scientist developing a national dairy research centre, to his tenure on the boards of Teagasc and Bord Bia.

Dan will be sorely missed and fondly remembered, and our thoughts are with our industry colleague Niall who succeeded his father at Dawn, and with all Dan's family.
