When Keir Starmer hosts the first UK-EU summit on Monday 19 May what will actually be settled, and where will business need to engage in the months ahead? BMPA’s public affairs company has outlined the opportunities and broad timeline for engagement afterwards in their latest briefing note.
The focus of the summit will be to agree the agenda for trade talks, so there’s a small window of opportunity between now and the end of Summer to push for issues that businesses care about to be included.
As the briefing points out: “the time to make the case for ambitious outcomes is now, backed with evidence about the potential for growth and jobs.” BMPA is currently embarked on a programme of engagement with multiple government departments to press the British meat industry’s case. Our aim is to ensure that Ministers and civil servants understand the importance of arming UK negotiators with industry-specific information to enable nuanced negotiations that will protect our industry and benefit the UK economy.
We are the UKs largest trade body for the meat industry and provide expert advice on trade issues, bespoke technical advice and access to government policy makers
We are proud to count businesses of all sizes and specialties as members. They range from small, family run abattoirs serving local customers to the largest meat processing companies responsible for supplying some of our best-loved brands to shops and supermarkets.
We are further strengthened by our associate Members who work in industries that support and supply our meat processing companies.
We are the voice of the British meat industry.
