As part of its Climate Change Agreement, BMPA has negotiated significant discounts to the Climate Change Levy on behalf of meat companies which are applied on electricity, gas, propane and coal. The scheme has been running for several years and is now re-opening to new members in January 2026.
Climate Change Agreements (CCAs) were set up by the UK Government to encourage greater uptake of energy efficiency measures amongst companies in energy intensive industries. CCAs are part of the Government’s policy to reduce use of energy and hence reduce CO2 emissions. CCAs provide companies with a significant financial incentive – a discount on the Climate Change Levy (CCL). To retain this financial benefit each company must achieve an energy saving target set for a two year period. Participation in a CCA is voluntary, but as the financial incentives are very strong almost all sites that can have a CCA apply for one.
SLR Consulting administer the CCA scheme on behalf of BMPA and you can find full information and documentation on what’s involved and how to apply on the dedicated BMPA Climate Change Agreement web page.
Any meat processing companies that would like to benefit from this collective scheme discount, please contact David Lindars, Technical Operations Director at BMPA.
