Defra offers a new collaborative approach to the UK’s food strategy
At a recent meeting with industry food representatives, Defra’s Secretary of State, Steve Reed, outlined an ambitious new vision for the UK’s food system, marking the start of a collaborative effort to develop a comprehensive food strategy. Focused on four key areas – improving public health, fortifying food security, driving economic growth, and advancing sustainability – this initiative promises to address the sector’s most pressing challenges. This commitment to open dialogue signals a positive step towards ensuring that the strategy reflects the diverse needs and expertise of the sector and marks a departure from the frustrating lack of engagement under the previous government
At BMPA, we welcome this collaborative approach and are ready to contribute to shaping a resilient and sustainable future for our industry. However, we’ll also be closely monitoring Defra’s progress to ensure they deliver on their commitments. Read our latest article for more details and insights on this critical initiative.
