Defra has launched a Call for Information seeking views from businesses and industry stakeholders on how a potential UK–EU Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) agreement could affect the agri-food sector.
The Government is particularly interested in hearing from businesses about where current arrangements create costs, delays or operational challenges, such as Export Health Certificates (EHCs), border checks and wider administrative requirements.
Defra has suggested that, if an agreement is reached, new arrangements could come into force around mid-2027, although this will depend on the outcome of negotiations.
BMPA has already been engaging with Government on this topic, but members who have specific examples of border delays, export costs or operational challenges when trading with the EU are encouraged to share them so they can inform ongoing discussions.
Members can review the Call for Information and accompanying guidance on the BMPA portal.
