New survey shows another decline in Welsh sheep flock
A new survey by Hybu Cig Cymru - Meat Promotion Wales shows that the size of the national sheep flock is lowest it’s been in 13 years. This includes a lower number of breeding ewes which will have an immediate effect on next year's lambing season. Beef and dairy herds are also down.
HCC have said that they’ll be doing an impact study in coming weeks to gauge "what this might mean for our economic sustainability and likely future livestock trends." They'll be looking particularly at how input costs, farmgate returns and net-zero ambitions will continue to influence farming businesses' intentions and what that might mean for the future of Welsh farming.
