New Sustainability Manager joins the BMPA team

The British Meat Processors Association (BMPA) has appointed Lucas Daglish as its Sustainability Manager as part of the on-going restructure and growth of the organisation.

Lucas brings forty years of experience working in a variety of operational and senior food procurement roles in the hospitality sector. Since 2006 he has been focused on red meat procurement, animal welfare policy implementation and livestock sustainability in his previous roles as Senior Category Buyer and then Group Food and Beverage Policy Manager at Whitbread PLC.

Nick Allen, CEO of BMPA said: “Lucas joins BMPA as the British meat industry faces profound challenges on the sustainability, health and animal welfare fronts.

His deep understanding of global food systems along with an ability to foster connections and collaboration across multiple players will be vital in helping our members navigate the legislative, political and attitudinal challenges that lie ahead.”

Lucas will work with members’ sustainability teams and provide them with advice and guidance on emerging livestock welfare standards, associated sustainability considerations, research initiatives and policy development across a range of livestock species.

Part of his remit will be to conduct benchmarking and review standards and practices relevant to end-to-end animal welfare, environmental sustainability, climate change and other emerging issues. He will also engage with relevant NGOs to influence programs, protocols and policies.

Commenting on his new role, Lucas said: “I am excited to join the BMPA team and look forward to building collaborative initiatives to deliver the existing and future sustainability commitments of BMPA members”

President of the BMPA, Tom Kirwan added that: “Lucas’ experience and deep knowledge of the meat industry will be a valuable resource for BMPA. We are building a team that will be able to better support current members as well as introduce new services, technical information and industry intelligence to create a wider membership offering. I am very pleased to welcome Lucas on board so he can play a part in BMPA’s evolution”.
