Last month, BMPA’s CEO John Powell met with a high-level delegation from Ireland to discuss issues of mutual interest and identify areas for further cooperation. The meeting took place in Birmingham and included the Minister for Agriculture Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon TD, the Secreatry General of DAFM Sinead McPhillips, the CEO of Bord Bia, Jim O’Toole and Agricultural Ataché from the Embassy of Ireland in Great Britain, Tom Fabozzi along with other advisors and representatives from Ireland.
The talks were very positive with the group focusing on strengthening industry performance, market positioning and cross border supply chains. They identified a number of areas on which we can collaborate and learn from each other including traceability, assurance and data systems, the integrated approach to livestock management, as well as marketing and promotion.
It’s an exciting collaboration and we’ll report back to members on future activities.
