Following the appointment of Prime Minister Andy Burnham, BMPA Chief Executive John Powell has written to congratulate him and set out the meat processing sector’s priorities for the Government. The letter highlights the industry’s vital contribution to the UK economy and food security, while calling for better coordination across government, continued support for export growth, urgent progress on an SPS agreement with the EU, and stronger representation for the processing sector within government. Members can read the full letter here (PDF).
We’re also pleased to see Angela Eagle return to Defra. Having worked with her during her previous time at the department, she already has a good understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the meat processing sector. That existing knowledge gives us a solid foundation for continuing the constructive engagement we’ve already established on the key issues affecting the industry. You can read the letter John Powell sent to her today here.
