This week it was confirmed that John Powell will be sitting on the GB Pig Core Group, a small team of 6 to 8 members who are recognised as experts and influencers in pig production and related sectors. It coordinates key stakeholders including producers, integrators, and industry bodies primarily to focus on disease surveillance, biosecurity, and contingency planning.
The group works closely with the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) to build industry resilience. Their primary areas of focus cover disease control, crisis response and disease prevention strategies, particularly for major threats like African Swine Fever (ASF). They also have the scope to address industry issues and challenges such traceability and opportunities for Government and industry to work together.
