BMPA’s Sustainability Manager, Lucas Daglish’s latest article examines the European Commission’s proposed simplification of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). While the changes are a welcome step in reducing bureaucracy, BMPA continues to press for a more level playing field to ensure UK exporters are treated fairly alongside their EU counterparts.
Alongside this work, Lucas has been meeting directly with EU Member State Competent Authorities to help ensure the regulation works in practice as well as on paper. A recent meeting with the Dutch authority provided useful reassurance that the industry’s proposed traceability approach is heading in the right direction, while also highlighting the value of testing processes before implementation. Lucas travels to Bonn next week to meet the German Competent Authority and will share a further update with members once those discussions have taken place.
